WWDC 24 is here and that means a lot of new stuff to write about. I decided to start at a new macro that took my attention. "What's new in SwiftUI" only briefly mentions this new wrapper, but doesn't tell you why it exists and how it can be useful. I'm here to explain you all the details!

Swift 6 is a huge milestone in the development of Swift and aims to eliminate data races completely. This article provides a good overview of what’s new.
There are also entirely new frameworks in addition to new APIs. This could be a great starting point if you’re considering building a new app!
This is just a subset of new changes, but it’s a great starting point for looking into new SwiftUI APIs. I especially like the new @Entry macro!

What are your favorite announcements of WWDC ’24?

I am often asked this question after WWDC. So many new APIs, frameworks, and improvements exist, but what are your favorites?

The APIs and changes you’re interested in highly depend on the app(s) you’re working on. I’m personally mostly working on RocketSim lately, so one of my favorite announcements has been Offer Code support for Mac Apps.

Apple Intelligence integration into Xcode is very promising, and SwiftUI Preview improvements for larger projects will hopefully finally allow developers to embrace previews fully.

Based on my first run with Xcode 16, I’m super excited. Honestly, I ran into many runtime exceptions for RocketSim, but it also made me experience how Xcode 16 now tries to help you solve the exception. It’s an exciting time for us developers!
